Have you recently graduated from an accredited healthcare program (nursing, ancillary, etc.)? Great! You have already made a step toward a better future. When you decided to begin a career in healthcare, you decided to enter a very exciting, challenging, and rewarding career field. However, when you graduated from a program with a degree in your field, you took an even bigger leap into your future. Your hard work is paying off already! Studies show that college graduates’ starting salaries are higher than they have been in the recent past.
Graduates Earn More Money
Time Magazine reports in their article entitled, “New College Grads Could Be Looking at the Highest Starting Salaries Ever” that the average starting salary for a college graduate is “up 3% from last year.”
Pair this with the fact that healthcare has always been an industry that sees growth and you have a winning combination. Nurses are currently in high demand. Nurse Journal had this to say in an article entitled, “Registered Nurse Salary & Career Outlook”:
“Employment of registered nurses is projected to grow 19 percent from 2012 to 2022, faster than the average for all occupations.”
There are many reasons for that growth. But, we can project that the growth will continue as people live longer and healthier lives. Nurse Journal goes on to state:
“Growth will occur for a number of reasons, including an increased emphasis on preventative care; growing rates of chronic conditions, such as diabetes and obesity; and demand for healthcare services from the baby boomer population, as they live longer and more active lives.”
Ancillary services (such as Case Management, Paramedics, EMTs, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, and so many more) will be needed as well. And, of course, qualified physicians and specialists will be needed as the population ages.
